This design outlines the master plan for the restructuring of the Van Asbroeck site and includes a full commission for the construction of a new kindergarten department and a Dutch-language music academy in Jette.
The Van Asbroeck School began as a municipal primary school in a typical early 20th-century brick school building, surrounded by fields — on the edge of the urbanized area. The site is now undergoing further transformation, adding a new chapter. In doing so, we must not compromise future changes nor ignore the existing character. The current project is part of a continuous historical process, in which the site and its buildings must be able to provide meaningful functions for multiple generations and adapt to an ever-changing society. The identity of the place must never be lost. Even in a future development vision, it should always remain clearly legible.
