The regenerative neighbourhood

The regenerative neighbourhood challenges the status quo and will make its positive impact tangible beyond the boundaries of the project area.

The agora as an informal living room

The new leisure site forms the starting point of a dynamic pendulum through Sint-Katelijne-Waver, which connects the open areas in the village centre. The pendulum not only connects the functions on the site, but also the wider village fabric, and strengthens the connection between nature, architecture and the past.

Dynamic urbanisation

DijleDelta, a new urban district at the Vaartkom in Leuven has been developing on the former brewing industrial estates since 2012, with a mix of housing, catering, office and community spaces.

Cultural-educational heritage of tomorrow

The Paul Van Ostaijen site, located at the park of the same name, is a vibrant home for musicians, gymnasts, artists, ballerinas, actors and circus artists in the making.

School as a hybrid fun, learning and working machine

The new STEM school building promotes future-proof education with a strong focus on flexibility and openness. With a rational and compact design, we create multifunctional spaces that can easily adapt to future needs and changes.

Lifelong living at the park

One of the few remaining Empire-style townhouses at the Sint-Donatuspark in Leuven was transformed with great respect from a run-down student house into a comfortable home for life.

Contemporary evolution for the abbey

The origins of the Abbey of Westmalle date back to the French Revolution, when the farmstead ‘Nooit Rust’ soon expanded with a church, monastery, and guest quarters, and later also a farm and brewery. Since the brewing process still takes place within the abbey walls, the beers of Westmalle may still rightfully be called authentic Trappist beers.

Layered for action designing tomorrow’s emergency services

The fire station east of Londerzeel presents itself as functional, robust, and future-proof.

A thoughtfully adaptable layout

The new fire station in Vilvoorde starts with an open hall structure, serving as a safe haven for an ever-evolving profession.

Wooden jewelry boxes for Café Trappisten

Café Trappisten celebrates its centenary in 2023 and has been an iconic bistro in the region for many years. As an annex of the Abbey and Brewery of Westmalle, the café offers a cozy setting to taste the famous Trappist beers.

A residential landscape as a recreational center.

Landscape design, architecture, and technology support and enrich one another, resulting in a neighborhood structure that appears simple and legible, yet is far from simplistic.

The school as an inner courtyard

The project includes not only a kindergarten but also multipurpose halls and various childcare initiatives, including two daycare centers. This gives the child the opportunity to grow from nursery to the end of primary school in a familiar environment. After school hours, there is the possibility of using large parts of the school separately as an Open School.

Communities along the forest edge

The Nieuw-Sledderlo neighborhood is located a few kilometers from the center of Genk. The city administration took the initiative to explore future possibilities for the incomplete satellite city and its surroundings.

Functional machine in the Brabantse Kouters

The new police station in Asse is located at the boundary of the town center and the green landscape of the Brabantse Kouters, forming part of a larger master plan for a security campus.

The care community

As a building block for this village, we use the size of the individual room, which defines the grid of the entire site. Integration into the large landscaped garden is maximized by arranging the building ensemble in a U-shape.

An annex in service of craftsmanship and living

A subtle access path from the street leads to a bright studio belonging to an experienced ceramicist. In an open corner of the existing house, a new two-story volume has been added.

An embedded extension

No matter how small its additional surface area is, this extension generously handles light, sightlines, and spaciousness. The inspiration for its appearance was not drawn from the house itself, but from the neighbors, where one of the most beautiful interbellum buildings in Tienen can be found.

The bungalow as an exemplary dwelling

The original bungalow is restored to its former glory by renovating it according to the initial design volume from 1958. The new construction connects to this volume from the northeast corner.

New care campus as a small town within a town

The master plan for Campus Dommelhof consists of a nursing home in the village of Tielt-Winge, equipped with a bistro, neighborhood health center, and day facilities, all grouped around a ‘village square’.

The campus as a living environment

Until recently, BS Kaleido and the Atheneum were located on a single campus. In a process-driven approach, LAVA architecten collaborated with GO! to explore multiple design scenarios in search of an efficient reorganization, aiming to create a refined living and learning environment.

Small town residential care home

De Wiekslag is a care facility where young people can temporarily stay in a living group. The design is based on the structure of a residential courtyard that creates a balance between a homely atmosphere and a safe, clear, and supportive living environment.

Neighbourly living

This passive complex for 42 dwellings for the elderly settles on and in the green slope of Neder-Over-Heembeek and connects the canal with the residential fabric. The new construction guides the scale transition and slanted terrain by connecting 3 floors to the residential area at the top of the plateau.

New way of assisted living

The expansion at Campus Walden combines studios for individuals with severe physical disabilities and apartments for their caregivers. This innovative concept for the care sector earned the IC2-award in 2015 and was selected as an "experimental housing model" by the Flemish Government in 2018.

Creating a versatile play and learning landscape

With this project, the municipality transforms the village school and its surroundings into a spatially sustainable and socially integrated center.

Small-scale care homes

De Parel provides a warm and safe home for 24 care-dependent individuals with mental and/or physical disabilities. The design reflects the vision of small-scale living, placing the individual resident at the center.

Urban icon

A carefully considered masterplan for the campus interweaves a contemporary and future-oriented educational infrastructure with its historical heritage.

Room for care and contemplation

The transformation of this monumental house in Leuven into a contemporary care home offers a unique combination of contemporary care and soothing contemplation.

New socio-cultural centre for Haacht

The ‘Heiken’ is one of the oldest stone buildings in Haacht and its surroundings. Over time, it developed into a magnificent castle with annexes surrounding a courtyard—until the sudden need for a hotel for Expo ’58 led to drastic changes to the heritage site, with half of the park paved over for parking.

Forming a community in the heart of Anderlecht

Located on the Place de la Vaillance, the Community Centre De Rinck profiles itself as a social engine: during activities such as Tournée General, the Annual Fair and, among others, the Saint Guido festivities, De Rinck organises and facilitates the festivities.

From industrial site to livable village structure

In the initial masterplan, great importance was placed on the site's morphology, while at the same time a number of clearly divergent interventions were proposed to transform the industrial site into a new residential district.

A transparent skin around an evolving volume

The administrative center is designed with the citizen as the central figure, where interaction and communication with the administration are essential for effective governance.

A convent as a congres centre for the UA

The building was originally designed as an introverted space for reflection and humble social service. Externally, it presents a long, discreet street façade, while the interior, with its neo-Gothic vocabulary, reflects its religious foundations.

Perceptual wandering in the historic heart of KU Leuven

Through the strong spatial experience and the three-dimensional openness of the structure, a "promenade architecturale" is created along the historic façades of the University Halls.
